Weris Air Experiences Accident Due To Strong Winds

Manado - A plane belonging to WERIS AIR Airlines type ATR 72-500 with Call Sign WR-300 with Makassar - Manado Route crashed and burned at Sam Ratulangi Airport.

The plane was carrying 50 passengers, flying from Makassar to Manado with bad weather conditions it expected to land at 17.30 WITA use Runway 18.

ATC officer of Sam Ratulangi contacted the Watch Room ARFF, that the plane would be landing because after holding and planned RTB (return to origin station), but the origin station has also experienced bad weather. Then Watch Room officers inform all personnel for stand-by in vehicles.

When the plane approached the short final and ready to land suddenly came the cross wind from the east, plane crashed rotates 180 degrees and crashed to the right of Shoulder Taxi Bravo Way, the plane burnt on the right side of the plant.

Luckily, the incident was part of the Hot Drill Airport Fire Fighting and Rescue Section of PT. Angkasa Pura I Sam Ratulangi Airport Manado.

This training activity was held on Friday (30/9) at 17.30 WITA. Shortly after the sound of crash bell all AFFR personnel go to site immediately of Shoulder Taxi Way Bravo exercise for fighting fire and do help.

General Manager Nugroho Jati who witnessed the execution of this exercise seemed satisfied with the readiness of personnel and equipments so as to achieve a response time as required.

In the Hot Drill exercise, the AFFR Section involved 20 personnel and used 2 ambulance units, Commando Car 1 unit and 1 Utility Car unit. [PR MDC].
